Justin Trudeau’s Son Reveals What He Really Thinks of Katy Perry After Admitting He Was ‘Confused’ by Their Romance While His Mom Was Seemingly ‘Triggered’

New relationships aren’t only about the two people in the relationship, especially when kids are involved. So, when singer Katy Perry started dating former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, the question of how his kids reacted was a valid one. Perry also has a daughter, but she’s much younger. Trudeau’s kids are old enough to have an opinion, particularly his oldest one.

Xavier “Xav” Trudeau, who is also an up-and-coming musician, recently opened up about the relationship on the April 8 episode of the “Can’t Be Censored” podcast, and also spoke about his own relationship with Perry.

“When I’m really happy with a song [I] send it [to her],” he said, adding, “She’s always happy to give me advice or tell me what I should change.”

He also shared that he’s had a chance to get to know her since she and her father have been dating. “She’s super nice. She’s super down to earth. She’s great,” Xav said. “I think that my dad’s happy so that’s important.”

And though Xav admitted his father dating someone with such a high profile brings with it “noise,” it’s not like he isn’t used to it because of his father’s political career. And at this point, seeing a picture of Perry and his father together is “just like any other picture of my dad and my mom. Or just my dad.”

Sounds like a good relationship indeed.

It’s a little surreal, though, and Xav acknowledges that. “My life is so crazy sometimes. I’m like, What is my life? What the hell?” Xav shared. “I just laugh. The reality of it is, it’s my life. What can I do? What can I change?”

This all comes after Xav previously admitted his first reaction to the relationship was one of confusion. On Jessica Cruickshank’s Phone a Friend podcast, he said that when he learned his father was dating the pop superstar, “I was confused, but honestly, to me, the most important thing is if they’re happy, then that’s what’s important,” he said. “I think they would say the same thing about me and my music.”

Your father is your father, no matter how old you are. So, imagining him dating someone like Katy Perry probably takes some adjustment.

“I can tell he’s really happy with her,” he added. “I’ve met her a couple of times, and she’s great. I’m happy for them,” he said at the time.

Trudeau’s ex-wife and Xavier’s mother, Sophie Grégoire also discussed her ex’s new relationship on the “Arlene is Alone” podcast. “You know, we’re human beings, and stuff affects us. Normal,” she explained. “How you react to stuff is your decision. So, I choose to try to listen to the music instead of the noise.”

Grégoire was married to Trudeau for 18 years before they separated in August 2023. They share three children, Xavier, Ella-Grace and Hadrien.

She also said that she’s “very aware that a lot of public stuff out there can be triggers.” But “what I do with it is my decision. The woman I want to become through this is my decision.”
