Working for a member of the royal family sounds like a complicated thing. The pressure, the schedule, the expectations. And whatever your job is, you have to manage that as well as you can. Kate Middleton’s former aide, Natasha Archer, is now opening up about what the experience was like.
Archer, who departed her role in July 2025 after 15 years, and was credited as the brains of some of Middleton’s most memorable looks, spoke to The Telegraph about what her job entailed, what she’s doing now, and what she took away from the experience of working with Kate and William for so many years.

“I often get referred to as a stylist, and it’s quite frustrating,” she said in the interview. “There are a lot of other things that came with my role…I’m not a traditional stylist; I’m looking at everything. Even admin support. I feel like it’s a unique talent that I can bring to specific people.”
Archer departed the role to open her own consulting firm, which she describes as “a highly personalized service for individuals leading really complex lives.”
“I just love supporting people,” Archer said. “There are so many levels of support – yes, admin, but also just being there sometimes, being that calmness to someone.”
The former aide first worked for the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester in 2007 before moving on to work for Prince William and Prince Harry at Clarence House. When William proposed to Kate in 2010, she transitioned to working for the Prince and Princess of Wales. Her most recent official role was as the senior private executive assistant to the Prince and Princess of Wales.
She said about her new firm, “I might have somebody who comes to me for help for a small family wedding, or it might be somebody saying, ‘I’m going skiing, I’ve never been,’” adding, “Other people are, say, a businesswoman delivering a big speech, and they are so confident, yet they are not confident with their clothes.”
About her time working with William and Kate, Archer said that working for the couple was “an extraordinary privilege, and I hold it so close to my heart. I’ve made incredible friendships there, and I look back on my memories totally fondly, and I just feel really grateful to have had that opportunity.”
“I learnt so much from the people I was working for. It’s planning, it’s being ready, it’s offering an unwavering level of support to who you are working with,” she added. “And my work has definitely evolved now, but my standards remain the same.”
As for her replacement, reportedly, Middleton did not hire anyone specifically to replace Archer and has no plans to hire a stylist at this point. “Kate has always been very involved in choosing her outfits for royal engagements, but now she is so confident, she knows exactly what suits her and what doesn’t,” a source told People.
