The Real Reason Sydney Sweeney’s Role Was Cut from The Devil Wears Prada 2
Sydney Sweeney has built up her profile over the last few years, making the jump into movies with roles in Anyone But You (2023) and The Housemaid (2025). She was reportedly set to appear in the the highly anticipated Devil Wears Prada sequel and was even photographed on set in August 2025, but her role now appears to have been removed from the film’s final version.
Entertainment Weekly revealed in an April 21 report that Sweeney’s cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2 has been cut from the film. A source claimed it was simply a “creative decision” to remove the scene.
Sweeney would’ve appeared in a scene near the beginning of the movie, when journalist Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) and Runway executives Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) and Nigel Kipling (Stanley Tucci) try to convince former Runway assistant-turned-Dior executive Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt) to help keep Runway from going under.
In the film, the trio heads to Dior to get Emily’s help. That’s where Sweeney’s scene would’ve come into play, as part of an expanded sequence introducing Emily in her new work environment. The nearly three-minute scene showed Emily working with Sweeney, who appeared as herself.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Sweeney’s brief scene “did not work structurally with the rest of the sequence.” Those working on The Devil Wears Prada 2 were “grateful for her participation, making the decision to remove the bit a difficult one.”
Even though Sweeney was cut from the film, she still has a busy slate ahead, including reprising her role as Cassie Howard in Euphoria Season 3. Her storyline in the third season has drawn a fair amount of controversy, though, as it sees Cassie delivering kinky content on OnlyFans in order to save money for her and Nate’s (Jacob Elordi) wedding.
In Episode 2, Cassie dresses like a baby and sucks on a pacifier, which caused quite a stir online. One fan wrote on X, “extremely unsettling that pedophilic content like this is being normalized on a mainstream show like euphoria. we need to remember that hollywood is pushing this content in a world that’s still horrified by the files, which is so so sickening.”
