Celebrity scandals are a dime a dozen, but the one Katy Perry is facing is way more serious than your regular cheating or breakup drama. Instead, Perry is facing sexual assault allegations from actress Ruby Rose, who claimed in a series of posts on Threads that Perry assaulted her at an Australian nightclub when she was in her 20s.

“I was only in my early 20s. I’m now 40. It has taken almost two decades to say this publicly,” Rose wrote. “Though I am so grateful to have made it long enough to find my voice, it just shows how much of an impact trauma and sexual assault takes. Thank you for seeing me.” A representative for Perry denied the allegations, calling them “dangerous reckless lies.”

And what about Perry’s boyfriend, former Canadian PM Justin Trudeau? He’s reportedly standing by Perry. “He doesn’t believe the accusations — not for a second,” one insider told Rob Shuter. “He thinks it’s unfair and deeply damaging.”

“He’s not questioning her,” the source added. “He’s defending her privately — completely.” But he won’t likely be making any statements about it. “You won’t see him doing interviews about this,” the insider explained. “He believes staying quiet is the smartest move right now.”

Privately, however, insiders agree Trudeau has Perry’s back. “He’s telling friends this doesn’t line up with the woman he knows,” the source said. “To him, it simply doesn’t add up.”

Trudeau and Perry have been dating since 2025, with multiple reports indicating the two are very serious about each other. Their kids have met. They’ve appeared in public together. In fact, their relationship seemed to be in a honeymoon period. At least until these allegations surfaced. Now, it’s damage control time.

“This is a huge test,” the insider said. “And he’s choosing loyalty.”

Reportedly, though, Trudeau is aware of the seriousness of the allegations. He is, after all, a politician. “He understands how serious this is,” the source added. “But his instinct is to protect her, not escalate things publicly.”

So, for now, we can expect Perry’s boyfriend to remain mum about what’s going on and let her take the lead. “He’s all in — just very, very quiet about it.”

When Rose first mentioned the incident, she said she would not be going to the police about it, only to then change her mind and share that she had indeed reported it. Victoria police said in a statement: “Melbourne sexual offences and child abuse investigation team (SOCIT) detectives are investigating [an alleged] historical sexual assault that occurred in Melbourne in 2010.” The statement continued, “Police have been told the incident occurred at a licensed premises in Melbourne’s CBD. As the investigation remains ongoing, it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”

Perry’s only response to the allegations was on Instagram Stories on April 14, when Perry wrote to her followers “i love you,” alongside an image of her song “By the Grace of God” from her 2013 album Prism.

Lyrics for that song include the lines, “Now I have to rise above / Let the universe call the bluff / Yeah the truth will set you free.”
